Program Overview
The online Family Financial Planning, Graduate Certificate prepares students to develop competencies that can lead to the Certified Financial Planner designation by the CFP International Board of Standards through enhanced personal financial knowledge.
Students of the program will:
- Integrate financial planning content areas into the development of financial plans and targeted financial planning recommendations that meet specific individual and family need sets.
- Apply a systems approach in working with individuals and families relative to financial management.
- Effectively apply verbal, written and graphical communication and presentation skills to client presentations.
- Synthesize and integrate complex and conflicting information sources into cohesive, defendable recommendations for clients.
The Family Financial Planning, Graduate Certificate program is offered as part of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (AG*IDEA). When students complete the program, they are utilizing coursework that is provided by seven universities. Students enroll in courses at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, even though courses may be taught by other AG*IDEA member institutions.
Career Outlook: The degree prepares students for further graduate study or for work in human services, extension and the private or public sector. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states the job outlook for Personal Financial Advisors to be 15% from 2016 to 2026. This is much faster than the average job growth rate.

Admissions and Requirements
To be accepted to this program, you must have:
A Bachelor's degree
2.5 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale
A written personal statement
Provide a professional goals statement.
3 letters of recommendation
Resume or vitae

Capstone course integrating both theoretical and applied concepts, including research findings introduced in all other courses. Students develop written financial plans based on comprehensive cases, presented to a panel of practitioners. |
