This online Master of Science in Special Education with a concentration in Behavior Intervention Specialist is designed for teachers, and other professionals, who wish to pursue an advanced degree in special education with an emphasis in behavior disorders and interventions.
Certified teachers, and other professionals, who consistently work with at-risk youth or who want more specific information about working with children and youth with behavioral challenges will find this program beneficial to their careers.
Students may choose from three program options available: 1) master of science with endorsement 2) master of science only, or 3) endorsement only
This flexibility makes the program applicable to teachers looking for an additional endorsement, as well as for professionals working in related fields such as social work, counseling and speech language pathology who may be interested in the master's degree without pursuing the teaching endorsement.

Students must have completed SPED 4800/8806 Social/Emotional Development of Children and Youth (or equivalent child development course) and EDUC 2510 Applied Special Education or SPED 8030 Teaching Students with Exceptionalities (or equivalent introduction to special education course) and math and reading methods courses. This course is designed to provide preservice teacher candidates and graduate candidates skills and strategies for instructing students with mild to moderate disabilities that struggle to acquire literacy skills. Emphasis is placed on diagnosis and assessment of specific reading and writing difficulties to determine effective instructional strategies. Instructional strategies will address modifications directed at teaching oral language, reading, writing, and spelling skills.
